Our Holiday Porch - New Decor and Winter Containers
Our front porch has been a rather sad sight since we took down all the fall decor and cleaned up the freeze burned plants so I was glad to finally find some time to give it a little love and decorate for winter! We got a couple really nice days this week so I thought I'd go all out and create my own DIY holiday planters this year. What a fun blog post that would be! But that was "55 degrees me"... two days and a serious cold front later, "10 degrees me" lost her jolly and took the quick and easy way out.
My company has a tradition of sending a beautiful fresh-cut holiday wreath each year which is always a great catalyst for getting my holiday on outside. It comes with a big red bow and big apple like red clusters, so I usually decompose it a bit to simplify it.
New Holiday Porch Items
Like I mentioned, the wind swept in some majorly cold weather so while I planned to DIY my planters and shop for supplies, once I was at Earl May I just decided to take the shortcut and buy pre-made containers that I could literally drop into the top of my empty pots. I selected two different sizes that coordinated. The larger of the two had these great big birch logs, soft pines and pops of red leaves.
The smaller containers had more of a spruce look with a smaller log, some red sticks and an artificial spruce/berry/pinecone pick.
I customized the smaller one just slightly, so I guess you could say I did a LITTLE DIY on these. I bought a few of the extra red leaf stems that the larger pots had to add to the smaller to make them feel more like a pair.
Best part about winter containers is you can just shove whatever you like down into the dirt. Before putting on the porch, I decided to move around some of the decorations so they were mirrors of each other on both sides of the door.
Beyond the greenery, I found this sweet little holiday welcome mat online while doing some Black Friday shopping at Target to swap out for the season.
Our Holiday Porch and Patio Pots
From sad and neglected to bursting with cheer, it's incredible the difference some fresh greens can make to bring your porch back to life for the holidays - even in 10 degrees.
The combination of textures these planters have is so lovely - one more fluffy, the other a little spiky,
The new Good Tidings welcome mat makes me smile. I love how it's clearly a Christmas rug but understated all the the same time.
My black and white rug and battery operated candle lanterns are still hanging on - you know you've made a good buy when you can use them all year long and they coordinate no matter the season.
Only thing left to figure out is if I'm going to attempt to add any twinkle lights out here, but for now, we're going to sit tight. We did something a little different with our house lights this year, so you'll have to stay tuned for that update!
